OUR COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY

Working with you to make construction better

The construction industry consumes a huge amount of raw materials and natural resources, and is responsible for almost 40% of total global energy-related CO2 emissions. How can we help drive change in the industry towards a more sustainable future?

We aim to be the best partner for sustainability by helping you become more sustainable while becoming more sustainable ourselves.

The current state of the construction industry

40 %

green house gas emissions
The built environment is responsible for around 40% of global GHG emissions.

50 %

raw materials
The environmental footprint of the construction industry is especially high, consuming 50% of raw materials.

1/3 waste

Helping you become more sustainable

Solutions designed to help lower carbon emissions and reduce waste

We aim to promote long-term success through a business strategy that places value on the environment, people and society, along with economic factors. We can help you become more sustainable with low-carbon products.

And with our help, your business can also do more with less all along the supply chain. That includes everything from our Integrated Project Solutions s that help you reduce material waste to our Fleet Management tool solution, designed to bring the circular economy to your jobsites.

Circular economy

Our circularity approach focuses on the entire life cycle of our products from design to production to repair, generating maximum value from a minimum use of raw construction materials and resources – doing more with less.

Green buildings

Green buildings are designed to reduce the overall impact of the built environment on human health and the environment. We support green building schemes like LEED with product declarations such as EPDs, VOCs and C2C.

Reduce emissions from concrete

Concrete is the most important material used in construction with cement as its key functional ingredient. Cement production typically requires fossil fuels to “burn” the cement and generates CO2 as a direct by-product of the chemical reaction. Concrete Sensors provide solutions that can significantly reduce the carbon footprint of concrete and create more sustainable construction.

Help enable safer building

Design safer, model-code-compliant buildings by employing innovative anchor systems, firestop solutions, engineering software and BIM processes. To help you identify safety challenges, our field-based engineers offer technical assessments. And you can achieve high-quality installations through our online or in-person training sessions and on-site testing systems.

The three pillars of our corporate sustainability strategy

Enviornment

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) provides a recognized framework for companies to set long-term science-based CO2 emission targets in line with the Paris Climate Agreement. We are committed to lowering our carbon footprint and limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C (34.7°F). F

We are drawing up an action plan to significantly reduce carbon emissions along our entire value chain by 2032 (near-term target) and achieve net-zero by 2050 (long-term target).

People

We're committed to the health, safety and well-being of our team members - and yours, too.

We not only offer products and services that focus on jobsite and building safety but also help improve safety standards by working with research and approval bodies. Health and safety are baked into every part of our product development processes: from the substances we use to the tool innovations designed to help protect users from fatigue and injuries.

Society

We understand there are societal challenges where we live and work. That's why we engage our employees within our corporate volunteering program to make contributions that go beyond business practices.

In developing countries and emerging markets, the Hilti Foundation is committed to empowering people to lead independent and self-determined lives. Its goal is to make a social impact at scale. By working with Hilti, you're contributing to a better world for future generations.

Our sustainability progress so far

60 %

CO2 reduction
In 2023, we achieved a 60 percent CO2 reduction within our own operations compared to 2019. Through projects in collaboration with the Hilti Foundation and ClimatePartner we have compensated for the remaining 40 percent of our CO2 emissions.

1.4 k

tools refurbished
Last year, 1,400 Hilti tools were refurbished and donated to non-profits and schools across North America.

160,000 parts

16x increased usage of refurbished spare parts in our repairs
We have expanded our reusage program and increased the number of refurbished spare parts in our repairs from 10,000 to 160,000 in three years.

854 projects

Supported by 11,000+ Hilti team members
Engaged Beyond Business is our corporate volunteering program formed jointly with the Hilti Foundation. Its aim is to make a significant contribution to solving the world’s social problems. All team members are encouraged and given the necessary support to invest their time and money in local social projects.
